Let’s here it for the local team! Crossbar’s grand opening went off without a hitch. Anchorage Brewing Co. made a special IPA just for the occasion and it shares a spot on their 100% local tap line. There’s also a full bar, great service and a killer menu of well-prepared and creative dishes. There’s something for everyone on that menu. Did I mention the TVs? You have to see this place to appreciate how much hard work and love went into it. This bar is a shrine to everything hockey! This Chugiak High School Alum was touched to see their tribute to the great Coach Mac up on the wall. Soon you’ll be able to see what they have on tap in The Beer Up Here app so stay tuned and drink local – at Crossbar.

Bodega Fest

You couldn’t have hoped for a better day for the 3rd annual Bodega Fest. Every face had a smile, and the sight of flocks of geese headed south to warmer climates could hardly dampen the spirits of the faithful quaffers who were there to enjoy some of the finest beer, wine, mead and cider in the world. Good vibes, good tunes and great food all complimented this well-organized merry festival. Cheers to Pamela and the La Bodega staff! -JJ

Obviously The Beer Up Here’s blog caters to Alaskan breweries, Alaskan beers and Alaskan beer lovers, but yesterday the guys at K&L Distributors were at Humpy’s celebrating the release of Rogues “The Beard Beer” with a group of bearded beer lovers. From Rogue’s website:

“It’s here! Our latest brew Dedicated to Beards, Beard Beer is brewed with a yeast created from Brewmaster John Maier’s Beard. No Need to freak out, Brewers have used wild yeasts in beer making for centuries. John has had the same Old Growth Beard since 1983 and for over 15,000 brews, so it is no great suprise that a natural yeast ideal for brewing was discovered in his beard.”

And if you’re wondering, yes, it was delicious.

By the way, if you are wondering what Humpy’s has on tap right now, you can download The Beer Up Here and see a daily updated list. We are continuing to add more alehouses and growler bars from around the state.

Join us at Moose’s Tooth in Anchorage today starting at 6 pm. We are selling merch, demoing the app (on sale TODAY ONLY for 2.99) and drinking some 17er – Moose’s Tooth’s 17th Anniversary beer. The pale ale-style brew is being added to the app as I write this!

From Tyler Jones at Broken Tooth Brewing:

“17er (Extra Pale Ale) Old enough to drive but still too young to vote… Happy 17th Moose’s Tooth! This year’s Anniversary Ale walks the line between Pale Ale and IPA; too big to be considered a Pale but not quite hoppy enough for an IPA by today’s standards. This beer pours a light bronze and has a solid malt structure to it. Four different hops, including our favorite lemony experimental variety, provide notes ranging from spicy to floral that balance the palette without overpowering it. Brewed by Sean Heyer OG 1.061, ~ 30 IBU, ABV 6.2%”

In addition, JJ will appear on Channel 2 news at 5 and 10 pm today, and on 94.7 fm radio at 8 pm, so tune in!

Cheers, hope to see you soon!
