Let’s here it for the local team! Crossbar’s grand opening went off without a hitch. Anchorage Brewing Co. made a special IPA just for the occasion and it shares a spot on their 100% local tap line. There’s also a full bar, great service and a killer menu of well-prepared and creative dishes. There’s something for everyone on that menu. Did I mention the TVs? You have to see this place to appreciate how much hard work and love went into it. This bar is a shrine to everything hockey! This Chugiak High School Alum was touched to see their tribute to the great Coach Mac up on the wall. Soon you’ll be able to see what they have on tap in The Beer Up Here app so stay tuned and drink local – at Crossbar.
It was a crystal clear Autumn day at the 2013 Talkeetna Brewfest. The festival is a benefit event for the Northern Susitna Institute, a collaborative nonprofit educational organization based in Talkeetna. The small town north of Anchorage is a welcoming, tight-knit community. The festival felt like a small get together of good friends in a cozy cabin, complete with a band jamming away in the loft. A fine selection of local craft breweries were on hand for the event including King Street, 49th State, Broken Tooth, Kenai River, Denali, HooDoo, Alaskan, Arkose, Silver Gultch, Glacier, Kassik’s, Midnight Sun, Anchorage and more. A great time was had by all. -JJ
Although it was drizzling in downtown Eagle River, we hiked up above the clouds on top of Badly for some exercise, sunshine and a couple Anchorage Brewing beer photos. Brian’s dad joined us to help out. The Grassroots Brewing Arctic Saison and the Mikkeller AK Alive Alaska Wild Ale joined us. We found some scenic places for photos and ran into a couple friendly hikers who joined us for a taste. Check out the iPhone app next month for more information and pictures.
