Another sort of last-minute trip lead us on a a beautiful but gray drive around Turnagain Arm and south all the way to Seward. Seward Brewing Company finally opened a few months ago after Gene and Sandy Minden acquired an old movie theater/the former Elks Building across from the SeaLife Center in 2011 and began extensive renovations. Pieces of the metal roof were used on the sides of the building and on the bars in the remodeled, wood floor brewpub. A huge metal halibut hangs above the bar. I have to admit, I got a little distracted by the Chicago Blackhawks/Detroit Redwings playoff hockey game (GO HAWKS), but was able to tear myself away to photograph and taste some great beer. Delicious! We ate dinner before we left, too, and the food was great. The building has an upstairs as well that is being remodeled to include another bar and stage, and has an amazing view of Resurrection Bay and the mountains. Definitely a must-see on a Seward trip.
