Let’s here it for the local team! Crossbar’s grand opening went off without a hitch. Anchorage Brewing Co. made a special IPA just for the occasion and it shares a spot on their 100% local tap line. There’s also a full bar, great service and a killer menu of well-prepared and creative dishes. There’s something for everyone on that menu. Did I mention the TVs? You have to see this place to appreciate how much hard work and love went into it. This bar is a shrine to everything hockey! This Chugiak High School Alum was touched to see their tribute to the great Coach Mac up on the wall. Soon you’ll be able to see what they have on tap in The Beer Up Here app so stay tuned and drink local – at Crossbar.

It was a crystal clear Autumn day at the 2013 Talkeetna Brewfest. The festival is a benefit event for the Northern Susitna Institute, a collaborative nonprofit educational organization based in Talkeetna. The small town north of Anchorage is a welcoming, tight-knit community. The festival felt like a small get together of good friends in a cozy cabin, complete with a band jamming away in the loft. A fine selection of local craft breweries were on hand for the event including King Street, 49th State, Broken Tooth, Kenai River, Denali, HooDoo, Alaskan, Arkose, Silver Gultch, Glacier, Kassik’s, Midnight Sun, Anchorage and more. A great time was had by all. -JJ

You couldn’t have hoped for a better day for the 3rd annual Bodega Fest. Every face had a smile, and the sight of flocks of geese headed south to warmer climates could hardly dampen the spirits of the faithful quaffers who were there to enjoy some of the finest beer, wine, mead and cider in the world. Good vibes, good tunes and great food all complimented this well-organized merry festival. Cheers to Pamela and the La Bodega staff! -JJ

New feature!

photo(2)

We just released our latest version of the app and it comes with a powerful new feature: now you can sort beers by name, ABV, IBUs, average rating, or number of ratings. Go to the “Beer” tab and you’ll see an index mark next to the search window. hit that and select how you want to sort your beers. If you have an iPhone and haven’t gotten the app yet, download it now! More amazing stuff to come, stay tuned!

300!

We just added the 300th beer to the app! The Broken Tooth Beg, Yarrow or Steal – a saison with hand-picked Alaskan yarrow and juniper berries. Our initial release included 255 beers. So we’ve added 45 beers in the 35 days the app has been live. That’s an average of more than one beer a day. If you buy the app, you get all those beers and a growing database for the price of a beer. Thanks for the support!
